ABOUT PPT
OUR STORY OUR TEAM OUR SUPPORTERS
"We don’t own the planet Earth, we belong to it. And we must share it with our wildlife.” — Steve Irwin
The Purple Patch Trust (PPT) is a registered animal welfare trust working across the Delhi NCR region for the welfare of small animals and birds. Our work is guided by the belief that companion animals depend on human care and deserve safety, dignity, and responsible treatment, while birds and wild animals should be protected in ways that allow them to live freely in their natural habitats, with minimal human interference.
Purple Patch was formally established in 2019, although the journey began earlier as more and more animals in need found their way to the Puljal family through rescue, abandonment, and informal care. Over time, this grew into a dedicated shelter-based effort for small animals and birds that had been neglected, surrendered, injured, or left without proper care.
For several years, Purple Patch provided direct shelter, nourishment, medical care, rehabilitation, and rehoming support. Alongside this, the Trust also worked on public awareness, community engagement, adoption support, and humane education, especially for children. Our experience made one thing very clear. Rescue is essential, but so is prevention. Many animals suffer because people do not fully understand what responsible care involves, make impulsive decisions about keeping animals, abandon them when circumstances change, or participate in the trade of animals without understanding the consequences.
In 2023, severe flooding caused major damage to our earlier shelter site and forced the evacuation of the animals in our care. In the aftermath, and in view of subsequent operational constraints, Purple Patch had to rethink how best to continue its mission. With valuable support from All Creatures Great and Small (ACGS) in Faridabad, many of our animals were safely rehoused. This difficult period also encouraged us to build a more sustainable and scalable model for the future.
Today, Purple Patch is repositioning itself as an advocacy-led and partnership-driven animal welfare organisation. While we continue to support rescue coordination, foster care, and adoption pathways where possible, our work now places greater emphasis on awareness, education, and practical systems of support.
Our work is organised around four pillars.
The first is humane advocacy in schools and community outreach. We engage with students, families, schools, and neighbourhoods to build awareness, responsibility, and better understanding towards animals. We speak about responsible pet care, the consequences of abandonment, illegal pet trade, and the importance of respecting wildlife. We believe that long-term change begins with informed children and engaged communities.
The second is rescue coordination and referral. While we do not currently operate a full-scale intake shelter of our own, we continue to respond to calls for help, guide people on immediate steps, and connect abandoned or distressed animals to appropriate support where possible.
The third is foster and adoption support. We work to help animals move into temporary foster care or permanent homes through responsible screening, guidance, and follow-up, particularly in collaboration with trusted individuals and partner organisations.
The fourth is partnerships, internships, and training. Purple Patch works with schools, communities, volunteers, professionals, and fellow organisations to build a wider and more informed animal welfare ecosystem. We see collaboration as central to meaningful impact.
Our mission remains the same: to stand up for vulnerable animals and promote a more responsible and humane society. What is changing is the method. Purple Patch is moving from a predominantly land-based shelter model to a more resilient and far-reaching model that combines advocacy, coordination, education, and partnership.
Through this transition, we hope not only to support animals in immediate need, but also to encourage better awareness, greater responsibility, and more humane treatment so that fewer animals are placed at risk.
